Five people were killed on Saturday in a double suicide attack by two women in the restive far north of Cameroon, the governor of the region said.
"Two women blew themselves up at around 6:00 pm" in the town of Dabanga, the governor of the far northern region, Midjiyawa Bakary, told AFP.
"The initial death toll is seven dead, including the two suicide bombers."
Two soldiers who had been stationed to fight the Nigerian Islamist group Boko Haram were also seriously wounded, he added.
The first bomber let off her explosives inside a house while a second blew herself up near a welding shop, said Midjiyawa.
This is the first time suicide bombers have attacked Dabanga, a small town on the road to the Kousseri border post, that is separated by only a stream from Nigeria. The region has been regularly targeted by Boko Haram

Appeal court sacks David Mark
Senate President, Sen. David Mark
The court ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to conduct fresh election in the Benue South Senatorial District within 90 days.
Mark’s victory, at the March 28, 2015 senatorial election, had been challenged by Daniel Onjeh of the All Progressives Congress, APC, who petitioned the Benue State Legislative Houses Elections Tribunal, asking for the cancellation of the election and an order to conduct fresh election in the district.
The Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu-led panel, on October 7, 2015, dismissed Onjeh’s petition on the grounds that evidence tendered before the tribunal was documentary hearsay.
In a unanimous judgement read, yesterday, by Justice Peter Ige, the appellate court dismissed the judgement of the tribunal and upheld the plea of the appellant that Mark’s election failed substantially to meet the provisions of paragraphs 39 and 40 of INEC guidelines and Sections 73and 74 of the Electoral Act 2010 as amended.
The panel of jurists also questioned the failure of the trial court to admit the evidence tendered by the appellant to canvass his case.
Meanwhile, Mark said, yesterday, he will win any election in the senatorial district even if it were to be conducted 100 times.
In a statement, the former Senate President urged his constituents to remain calm and be law abiding, just as he asked them not to be deterred by the verdict, but be strengthened ahead of the re-run.
In a statement by his Media Assistant, Paul Mumeh, he said he believed he won the election convincingly, adding that he had no doubt that his constituents would turn out en masses to vote for him again.

JAMB Results Validity Now 3 Years – Nigeria Senates Orders
This directive was given yesterday even as it ordered the board to immediately stop its policy of re-assigning candidates to schools they never applied to, saying such policy was contrary to the act establishing the board.
To this end, results obtained from the board by candidates seeking admission into universities are expected to last for 3 years.
The order came following a motion entitled: ”JAMB’s New Admission Policy, “ sponsored by Senator Joshua Lidani, APC, Gombe South.
People Should Stop Judging Wizkid – Wande Coal
Wande Coal is known to be both a musician and a mentor to some artistes in the music industry. His life story, rising from the slums of Mushin to becoming one of the most celebrated entertainers in Nigeria has inspired the likes of Wizkid and Davido.
In a recent chat, the Black Diamond of Africa, Wande Coal, spoke about the lingering beef between his mentees, Wizkid and Davido. He said that although he is a mentor to both parties, he made it clear that he is closer to Wizkid.
Wande told Saturday Beats:
“I have influenced the music of both Wizkid and Davido but the person with whom I went through a lot with and greatly influenced is Wizkid. I don’t think anybody should blame Wizkid for whatever action he takes. I know Wizkid very well and I know that he learns from everything. He is a great kid and I love him a lot.He is my brother and that is why he calls my name in his songs. We bonded.
With David, I feel he is a good artiste. In the game called music, there would always be friction but it does not mean that they are not cool with each other. People need to know that music is competitive,” he said.

Apple has overthrown Google to reclaim its title as the world’s most valuable brand for the year 2015.
The company had a great surge in 2015 thanks to the huge success of its iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s, beating Google with a growth of over $70 billion.
Microsoft came 3rd in the annual rankings made by Millard Brown, with just a little separating them from 4th-ranked IBM.
There was only $11 billion between 5th and 10th, with Visa at 5th, AT&T at 6th and Verizon at 7th. Coca-Cola was ranked 8th, restaurant chain McDonald’s was ranked 9th, and cigarette makers Malboro rounding out the top 10.

How To Know If Your Android Phone Is Fake Or Original - Phones
Mobile Markets are filled with Fake Phones and they selling them as
Original even with Branded tags beside it the replica phones are present in the market that looks similar to the original phone, to check whether your phone is original or fake there are two ways of checking it. These methods will help you a lot while buying a used cell phone.
1. First Check the following Features :
Be careful about the spellings For example, Soniericsson, Nokla, Techno and Samsvng
Warranties: Always insist on 12 months warranty certificate from the handset manufacturers; Never an oral agreement with the seller. Fake phones come with a shorter warranty periods since counterfeiters cannot guarantee it will last so long.
Check for performance of the handset: Some people carry their phones home without testing it first. Some dealers encourage this, knowing the handset is fake. As you check it out, you may notice some points of low performance such as memory which is smaller or poor quality photos.
Appearances: like dull colors , Fake logos, built quality difference in weight, screen size, location of buttons and battery, quality of printing and paint finish, added or missing functions, quality control stickers and holograms and an overall lack of quality.
2. The other method is checking Phones quality through 15 digit IMEI code:
Dial *#06#
IMEI stands for International Mobile Equipment Identity. It is a 15-digit number and may be found in the packet of the mobile phone. It may also be found by removing the back cover and it may be placed on the battery sticker.
The number might be as below:
3 6 9 3 9 5 [b]0 1 2 3 5 5 6 7 8[/b]
Now look at the 7th and 8th digit. These two digits will ensure your phone’s quality!
If the seventh and eighth digits are 00 this indicates your cell phone is manufactured in Original Factory which ensures the best quality.
If the seventh and eighth digits are 01 or 10 this indicates your cell phone is manufactured in Finland which is high quality.
If the seventh and eighth digits are 13 this indicates your cell phone is assembled in Azerbaijan which is too bad. And it is also dangerous for health!
If the seventh and eighth digits are 02 or 20 this indicates your cell phone is assembled in Emirates which is very poor quality.
(NB: Some Indian sets have this number)
If the seventh and eighth digits are either 03/30 04/40, this indicates your phone is made in China but its quality is good. But not good either as 00, 01 or 10.
If the seventh and eighth digits are 05 or 50 this indicates your cell phone is manufactured either in Brazil or USA or Finland.
If the seventh and eighth digits are 06 or 60 this indicates your cell phone is manufactured either in Hong Kong, or China or Mexico.
If the seventh and eighth digits are 08 or 80 this indicates your cell phone is manufactured in Germany which is fair quality.
This will help you to pick the good one. Try it. But, remember, these tips may not work with the Sony Erickson Mobile Phone.
Though the above information has been collected from very reliable sources, 1 or 2 of them may slightly vary.
I hope this help.
10 Ways To Spot Chronic Female Flirts On Social Media - Romance
I don't like the fact that our society always makes it seem like it's only the male folks that flirt online, but I can tell you that the female folks are not exempted from this.
It takes the grace of God if a lady exhibits any of the mentioned points on social media, and she's not a chronic flirt
Without wasting time, lemme keep the ball rolling
10 Ways To Spot Chronic Female Flirts On Social Media
1. They Take Selfie Everywhere
The issue of frequent changing of profile pictures has been causing controversies since the days of Olusegun Agagu. However, chronic female flirts on social media will always take selfie in every environment they find themselves. This is to show how sophisticated they are. E.g, Shoprite, Mr Biggs, Wedding reception, HOD office, Club House, Sweet Sensation, etc (just name it)
2. They Always Try To Draw Attention
They put status updates that will draw massive traffic to them even more than nairaland front page . You will see updates like, ''I'm bored, anyone wanna hangout with me?''; ''Wow! I feel like clubbing tonight. Care to join?''; "I'm hungry, who cares to take me out?"; I need money like kilode, who cares to help?; I need a man in my life. Smh
3. They Use Intimate Names as Monikers
This may sound funny, but it's the pure fact. A lady with a good upbringing barely uses Intimate names as a moniker. But as for the chronic female flirts, they will always add Intimate and fascinating prefixes and suffixes when choosing a moniker. You all know these prefixes and suffixes, so I wouldn't like to mention them
4. They Upload Almost Unclad Pictures
They are not hard to spot cos their pictures exemplify what they do offline. However, they usually upload sultry pictures of cleavages, bumbum, waist chain, anklets and it goes straight to their profile page. Their headquater na facebook, badoo, while other sites follow suite
5. They Reveal Personal Info On Social Media
Some things are rather kept hidden from public views. One of the characteristics of chronic female flirts on social media is that, you will sometimes find their phone numbers and BBM PINs added to their profile page. This is not for business purposes, but to flirt with "chairmen" that will ring them up
6. They Belittle Broke and Hustling Dudes
They are so much obsessed with money and will always give 500 reasons as to why they cannot date broke and hustling dudes. Ladies who often utter this statement on social media are very LAZY and are mostly likely to be flirts; because they won't hesitate to go down with every Tom, Dick and Harry, so far money is involved. They see no future in a dude that's still going through trying times
7. They Always Have Solid Points To Justify Cheating
By their comments you can also spot them, especially when a lady is being castigated for cheating. They will flare up and will be defensive, saying that, a lady is not expected to put all her eggs in one basket, hence, double-dating is plan B. They call double-dating a plan B ? Smh
8. They Tag People Unnecessarily
Some of them constantly tag thousands of people on social media directing them to their new dp to see how sexy their hair, lips, and body look like. What's the need of reminding people of how sexy your eyes/lips are? Na to get customers, of course. I know many of them oh! But I no go mention names.
9. They Always Claim They are Smarter Than Guys
These people always claim that they are very smart and know all the tactics guys normally use to coerce ladies into using and dumping them. They are always on social media, advising and counselling other people, even till odd hours at night... This is just to increase their online commercial worth, and attract various species of 'chairmen'

The Ogun State governor also enjoined the graduands to be aware of the responsibility they now have to the society as a whole.
“I charge you all to remember that you are now transitioning into shapers of other destinies as you go into the world to contribute your quota. It is your responsibility as teachers to ensure that the younger people put in your trust are well developed both in character and learning.
“Moreover, I want to charge you to be responsible, industrious, dependable and humble. You should ensure that you are good ambassadors of this great citadel of learning in all you do.

No Wearing Of Hijab In NYSC Camps, DG Insists
A group of Muslim youths under the aegis of Muslim Youths in Da’wah on Tuesday at the headquarters of the National Youth Service Corps in Abuja protested against the ban on the use of hijab by female Muslim corps members, especially during orientation camps.
But the Director-General of the NYSC, Brigadier-General, Johnson Olawumi, insisted on the ban, saying it was “for security reasons.”
The national coordinator of LMYiD, Luqman Hassan; and the Deputy Coordinator, Kamarudeen Adefila, had told the NYSC DG that a major protest by Muslims was averted because of the ban on hijab in most orientation camps.
Hassan told the DG, “We are here to discuss with you about the incident that happened recently in various camps across the country.
We have a guiding principle which is based on the Holy Q’uran. We are all Nigerians and the principle which guides us is the constitution and the African Charter on Human rights.
“Members of the NYSC are Nigerians who have contributed to the development of this country; female corps members deserve protection by the NYSC.
We don’t believe that a female corps member putting on hijab has done any wrong against the Act establishing the NYSC. So they deserve the respect of the NYSC.
We have travelled far and wide and visited different camps. Why are the rights of female corps members being infringed upon. We are here to register our displeasure.”
“Many Muslim organisations wanted to protest, but we said wait a while. In fact, we have to intervene to avoid the situation and if Muslims march on the streets, it will attract a lot of negative comments, but people won’t know why we are protesting,” Adefila had added.
In his response, Olawumi said, “Under my leadership, the NYSC will accord respect to every corps member, irrespective of tribe and religion. The incident in Benue State was caused by the use of long hijab. The security situation in the country is tough. There is the danger of somebody using hijab for other reasons.
“There have been cases where young girls put on hijab and eventually turn to suicide bombers. Boko Haram members know how to get at whoever they want as target. That is why we frown at the wearing of long hijab. Please call on all your Muslim youths to be patient and adhere to it, just for a short period during the camp. We frown at long hijab because of the security implication.”
The NYSC DG expressed disappointment in the allegation by the visiting youths.
“Why are you so particular on your alleged infraction on the rights of youths without mentioning any one of such on Christian youths? Produce your evidence, write to us and I can assure you that we will act fast.
When the incident in Benue State was reported to us, I swung into action and ensured that the camp commandant was decamped immediately. We are not magicians; if you have any evidence, write to us and we will not hesitate to act.”
The NYSC Legal Adviser, Ahmed Tijani Ibrahim, said the incident in Benue State was under investigation.
He said, “I’m a Muslim and in our camps, I know that we have treated everybody equally. You mentioned the fact that you would have proceeded to protest. Very minor issues could trigger off mass protest.
“We will see the way forward to this complaint. I can assure you that the issue will not be swept under the carpet. The NYSC is very sensitive to the issue of religion and immediately we heard of it, we swung into action and we are on it because issues of religion are very sensitive.”

Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) Best Graduating Student Speech
“We still have mountains to climb and
obstacles to overcome”Text of the Valedictory
Address delivered by Osakpolor Eki Obakpolor of
the Department of Physics , 2015 Best
Graduating Student with CPGA of 4.84On finding
out that I have been selected to give the
valedictory speech, I had but one worry
andthat’s whether I would be tall enough to
reach the microphone. Betty Reese said “If you
think you are too small to be effective, you
have never been in bed with a mosquito”. In
this I have found consolation. Therefore, I am
honored and excited to be here, not only to
represent this awesome graduating class of the
Federal University of Technology, Akure
2014/2015 academic session, but to stand in
theexact spot where great scholars have
stood. The author of Harry Porter, J.K Rowling
in her commencement address to Harvard
graduates of 2008 said “some failure in life is
inevitable. It is impossible to live without
failing at something”. That was my
consolation on failing my first Post UTME. In
the word of Theodore Roosevelt, “the boy who is
going to make a great man, or is going to
count in any way after-life, must make up in
his mind not merely to overcome a thousand
obstacles, but to win in spite of thousand
repulses and defeats”. Five years ago, on
gaining admission into this institution, I was
excited and anxious at the same time – excited
about the prospect of studying Physics in the
Nation’s leading University of Technology and
anxious about what the five years would hold.
But here I am, with gratitude to the
almighty God for making me a recipient of
His grace. While not forgetting the place of
diligence and discipline in this achievement, I
would not overlook the place of my family;
family where life begins and love never end.
It was there I learnt to strive for
excellence no matter what. At home, biblical
and ethical principles for attaining good
success in all facets of life were instilled. I
am deeply grateful to my parents, Pastor and
Mrs. Moses Eki Obakpolor, my twin sister,
Blessing, my younger sister Joy and my other
siblings for their support this far.It has
been a long five years, but here we are, ready
to graduate. We worked hard to get to this
point, but we didn’t do it by ourselves. We owe
a huge debt of gratitude. To our parents,
guardians, family and friends, thank you for
supporting us in more ways than it’s possible
to count and for your sacrifices. To our
Chancellor, Pro Chancellor, Vice-chancellorand
all the Principal officers of this University,
thank you for keeping things running
smoothly and making this institution the
pride of all.To our Lecturers, thank you for
your unrelenting efforts in imparting
knowledge. Your sacrifices were beyond the call
of duty.To our Proprietor/Proprietress,
Principals and Teachers in secondary schools,
thank you for laying a solid foundation upon
which we built onhere.Behind each graduate,
there must have been at least a dozen people
providing support in at least a dozen ways.
Thank you for coming to share in our joy. We
will pay the debt of gratitude forever.Class of
2015, be proud of yourselves. Be proudof every
test and exams you aced. Be proud of the times
you had to carry the MEE board even though it
later became more of a burden. Be proud of
the times you had to spend your weekends in
the school farm because in that you have
learnt the indispensability of agriculture to
man’s sustenance. Be proud of the times you
had to be awake all night in preparation for
a test. Also be proud of the times you wrote
tests unprepared for. Class of 2015; be proud of
the times you had to put off your own work
to help a friend. Be proud of thetimes you
couldn’t answer certain questions because in
that you have learnt that no one knows it
all. Be proud of when you forgave yourself for
a bad grade and gave yourself a break. Be
proud of yourself when you do get the job or
win the contract because in more ways than
you can imagine, you are contributingto
national accomplishments. Be proud of all
Sleep With Me Or I Will Fire You – His Female Boss Tells Him
I am messed up right now and I need your advice. I work in a company where I report directly to a lady.
My woe started when I went to her office one day to pick up a file. As I entered her office, my phone rang so I decided to take the call.
The call was a bit long so she decided to get the file for me from one of the file cabinets.
As she bent for the bottom drawer her skirt tore terribly exposing her panties.
The phone almost dropped from my hand. I tried to hurry out of the office but she called me back to help her go across the street to stitch it.
I was almost frozen. Ever since then she has been disturbing me to sleep with her.
She said she gave me the job because she love me. I just got married and don’t want to cheat.
Yesterday, she called me and and dropped the bombshell ” if you don’t sleep with me I will fire you”.
What do I do? I don’t want to lose that job. I am considering reporting her to my general manager but I am afraid of the consequence.

Why Muslims Hasten To Bury The Dead? - Islam for Muslims
Every man has two special days, the day of good which signifies the day we were born and the day of evil which signifies the day we will die. Hence, no one can remove or add a second to the time he was born and the day he will die
Ustaz Mhikail Shittu, an Islamic Teacher in Marcaz Shababul Islam, Lagos in his own view said:
Many people especially the non Muslims have a wrong notion about how we bury corpses in Islam. They believe we hasten to bury our corpses in Islam without following due process as laid down by Allah, which is totally untrue.
There are procedures to follow in Islam before funeral is announced and carried out. In a case where a person dies suddenly, maybe as a result of heart attack (almaut fijihat) in Islam, the first thing we do in Islam is to get a doctor to confirm if the person is dead. If the doctor confirms that the person is dead, then we must close the person’s eyes and render prayers thus:
“O’ Allah, forgive [name of the person] and elevate his rank among those who are guided. Send him along the path of those who came before, and forgive us and him, O Lord of the worlds. Expand for him his grave and shed light upon him in it.”
And inform his relatives and friends about the person’s demise. The next line of action is to UnCloth the corpse and begin to say good things about the dead because the angels will be there to say Amin .
We also have to know if the dead person has any debt or anybody is owing the dead before hastening to bury the person. Then we give the dead a special bath before it is laid to rest. All these put together shows that we do not totally hasten to bury our corpses in Islam.
However, in Islam starting from the time of Prophet Adam, the dead are buried on the same day they die except when the person dies at night because it is wrong to bury the dead at night in Islam.
Leaving a corpse for long before burying is another way of suffering the dead and increasing the pains of their loved ones because the more they see their loved one lying lifelessly, the more they feel bad.
It may cause more havoc — Ustaz Akintoye Ismaeel Adewale (An Islamic Instructor, Engineer)
Islam has taught us the best way to care for our dead ones. When a person leaves this world, he or she does not belong here anymore and so should be given the ticket to board on the next journey which is burying his body.
Aside this, leaving a corpse among the living can cause more havoc to the health of the living especially a dead person that has spent many years on the sick bed.
Burying a corpse almost immediately when he or she dies will not make the dead become a terror to his loved ones as many people get scared and run away from the corpse. It will make the dead rest peacefully.
When the news of death in the family reaches the relatives and friends, the first thing that they should say is Qur’an verse (2:156): “Inna lil-laahi wa innaa ilayhi raaji’oon [Truly! To Allâh we belong and truly, to Him we shall return.]”. This du’aa is known in arabic as al-Istirjaa. Also, the hadeeth of Bulugunuromi babajunasat page 105) says not burying a dead person on time means increasing the suffering of the dead especially who has encountered one hardship or the other.
It is not permissible for Muslims to delay the burial in order for the maximum number of relatives to see the deceased, which is common practice among other communities.
Once death is evident, the body should be prepared and taken out of the house for prayer and burial as soon as possible. In this way, contact with the dead body is minimised, which keeps the grief and hurt of seeing the dead down to a minimum. Abu Hurayrah related that the Prophet (May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said “Hasten the funeral rites” hadeeth Sahih Al-Bukhari vol.2,p.225.
Also, the Prophet made us to understand that the dead should be buried in the same area where they died. Transporting the body to another area or another country is not permissible if it will unne ..........................................unnecessarily delay the burial or cause financial or other hardship.
The Qur’an made us to understand that when a man dies, he is entitled to either paradise or suffering and some angels are already available after his death to give him which ever he is entitled to.
Delaying the burial of a corpse will delay his enjoyment in Paradise and in a case where he is entitled to suffering, the angels will begin to punish him right there in the house and this could affect the living around him negatively.
Another reason we bury our corpse on time in Islam is to adhere to the teachings of Allah.

Both are recognised in New African. Other Nigerians recognised include the former UN Special Advisor on Post Development Planning, and current minister of Environment, Amina J. Mohammed; AfDB’s new President, Dr Akinwumi Adesina and a surprising addition in the form of Nigerian Diasporan, UK MP, Chuka Umunna, who was in the frame Labour Party leadership.
South Africa also had its fair share of political influencers, among them “the black leader of South Africa’s ‘white’ opposition” party, the DA’s youthful Mmusi Maimane who also makes the list as one to watch during the next elections.
Prominent women making the list are UN Women’s Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka and fellow South African Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, the current chairperson of the AU Commission, widely tipped to be a potential successor to her former husband, President Jacob Zuma.
Liberia’s President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf is recognised together with her fellow heads of states, Alpha Conde of Guinea and Ernest Bai Koroma of Sierra Leone, for beating the odds to win the war against Ebola in 2015.
African financial giant and Credit Suisse boss, Tidjane Thiam, from Côte d’Ivoire, makes this year’s most influential list for Business and Economy, where he is joined by new World Bank VP and Treasurer, Arunma Otteh, Kenyan ‘DJ’ businessman Chris Kirubi and the entrepreneur and innovator behind Tesla cars, Elon Musk, among others. Managing Your Money by javablaze®™
Let us begin with the question, what is money? We may have different expressions for it – cheddar, bucks, dough, and c-notes – but money usually finds a way to overcome these barriers of dialects and speak to us. That said, money is simply a measure of value and a medium of exchange for goods and services. It exists in the form of an officially issued coin or note, gold, real estate, stocks & shares, a deposit in a checking account or other commodity of value.
There are two basic types of money: investments and liquid money.
· Liquid money refers to the cash we have either in our wallets or our bank accounts. They are what we use to settle our immediate expenses such as purchase of consumables or payment for services.
· Investment is the act of committing money or capital to an endeavor (such as a business, project, or the purchase of a commodity) with the expectation of obtaining an additional income or profit in the future.
Any money that comes to us as salary, wages, profit or stipend is an income and whatever money we pay for goods and, or services rendered to us is an expenditure. To keep track of our incomes and expenditures, we need a plan to guide us. This plan is called a budget.
It is very important to be mindful of our expenses by classifying what we are buying into ‘necessities and ‘luxuries’. Necessities are those things people require to survive, such as food, shelter, clothing and healthcare. On the other hand, luxuries are expensive but desirable things without which we can survive.
More importantly, it is financially wise to cut down on luxuries to be able to save and eventually make investments with the money instead.
We may need to borrow to execute some capital projects such as building or buying a home, a car or some other ventures. In such cases, the loan can be spread over a certain period so that it is paid in installments.
One should at all times ensure that his/her income accommodates the expenditures with a little extra for saving.

Michigan boy, 4, talks for first time with new voice box
Grant Hasse was born with two very rare conditions - one that's usually fatal, the other that should have left him unable to talk.
But at almost 4 years old, he's a healthy bundle of energy after three dozen surgeries, including an innovative operation to create a new voice box.
Doctors discovered before he was born that Grant's upper airway was completely blocked, meaning that at birth, he'd be unable to breathe. Even with quick intervention, doctors said his survival chances were extremely slim.
Only about 50 people born with the condition worldwide have survived. Even fewer are born with no vocal cords - an anomaly doctors didn't discover until after Grant was born.
What helped save his life was an operation to insert a breathing tube while he was still partly in the womb.
The Michigan boy is the first child for Andrea Hasse, a school principal, and her husband, Tadd, a carpenter. During a routine ultrasound when she was 18 weeks pregnant, they learned that something was "undeniably wrong," she said.
The images showed that Grant's lungs seemed to be nearly fully developed, yet he wasn't due to be born for another five months. Cartilage blockage in his upper airway prevented his body from expelling fluid, causing his lungs to swell.
"It was very earth-shattering for us," Andrea Hasse said. "We were given a 1 to 3 percent chance of survival. We clung to that 3 percent."
They were referred to specialists at the University of Michigan and because of the increasing fluid, her pregnancy became dangerous and doctors performed a cesarean section. Grant was just 27 weeks old and weighed less than 3 pounds.
Dr. Glenn Green, a pediatric airway surgeon at the university's C.S. Mott Children's Hospital, performed Grant's first surgery during the C-section. An opening to his windpipe below the blockage was created in the baby's neck as it protruded from his mother's belly. A breathing tube was inserted, and a handheld ventilator was attached as he was pulled from the womb and transferred to a breathing machine.
When Grant was around 1, during an operation to clear his throat, doctors learned he faced yet another hurdle - an undeveloped voice box and no vocal cords.
Green had reconstructed airways in premature babies whose voice boxes were damaged from breathing tubes. So he decide to take that a step further and refashion a voice box and vocal cords for Grant, using the boy's own tissue.
It involved two major operations, the last in July 2014. The surgeon created two cord-like structures from nearby muscle, and used a graft from Grant's rib to separate them, allowing them to vibrate like real vocal cords to create sound.
A speech therapist helped teach Grant how to form his lips and make puffs of air to create sounds, including "h'' and "p." After one speech therapy session in June, he started making letter sounds in the car. As soon as they got home, Grant blurted out "hop."
"We couldn't believe it!" Andrea Hasse said. "We looked at each other stunned and Grant acted like it was no big deal!"
Now he can say more than a dozen words, including "mama," ''dada," and "Peppa" - the name of his favorite cartoon pig.

Mum who wanted a new look dies from bug after 'bum lift' surgery
A mum who went for a Brazilian 'bum-lift' to give her a new look died from an ultra-rare flesh-eating bug, an inquest heard.
Jane Kiiza went to a top Harley Street surgeon for the buttock enhancement after her son - a Cambridge graduate - left home.
But the 47-year-old became the first person in the UK to die from being infected with the deadly pathogen during fat transfer surgery, an inquest heard.
The bacteria, found in soil and ground water which can spread several centimetres in an hour, tore through her body killing her just four days after the surgery, the coroner was told.
The IT consultant from Hampstead in North London is the first British casualty to die from the procedure, which involves fat being taken from one part of the body and then being injected into the buttocks.
Test found no traces of the bacteria in the privately-run theatre or iodine supplies at the Clementine Churchill Hospital.
Senior Coroner Andrew Walker ruled her death was a result of complications from the operation said:
"On June 19 2015 Ms Kiiza had surgery. "On 22 June Ms Kiiza became unwell and returned to the hospital where the surgery took place before being transferred to another hospital where she died.
"I would like to add my deepest sympathy to the members of the family."
Her inquest at North London Coroners Court yesterday heard she first visited top surgeon Dr Shailesh Vadodaria four weeks before to discuss liposuction and body contouring operation.
Ugandan-born Ms Kiiza, who was otherwise healthy, wanted something done with the fat on her back, legs and stomach and said she knew of the risks.
During surgery Dr Vadodaria removed fat from her abdomen, upper back, outer thighs and flank and injected it into different places on her bottom inserting a total of one and a quarter pints - 700ml.
She was discharged the next day but just two days later texted him at 6.33am in pain writing: "Please call me. I had a very rough night. Where do I come to see you, the Clementine Churchill or Harley Street?"
Giving evidence at her inquest, Dr Vadodaria said he "immediately" called her back as he was "worried about pulmonary embolism."
As it was "obviously an emergency situation" she was told to come to Clementine Churchill Hospital's emergency care centre.
But she was immediately transferred to the local NHS hospital Northwick Park hospital where she was given antibiotics but then went into septic shock.
She was rushed into theatre so surgeons cut out the infection but was unwell the next day and another operation was planned. But before she could be prepared she went into cardiac arrest and died.
Analysis of swabs revealed the infection had been caused by the bacteria Pseudomonas aeruginosa found in everything from soil to water and does not normally cause an infection in healthy people, the inquest heard.
The extremely rare flesh-eating infection was only found in Ms Kiiza's buttocks.
Dr Vadodaria told her inquest: "I have never had any infection following fat extraction or liposuction so I was surprised that it had happened and that it had happened in the buttock area."
Consultant emergency surgeon Mr Stuart Gould at Northwick Park said: "It is carried in the nose, it's carried in the bowel, it's in the environment.
Despite skin on both sides of her body being swabbed with iodine solution before the operation Mr Gould said:
"The risks are never completely removed."
Asked why it didn't respond to antibiotics, he said:
"You have to remove the source of the infection. Everything else is supportive. "Although antibiotics can address the infection through the blood stream it doesn't stop the source. "The spread of this is so rapid that the only solution is to remove the source. It can spread several centimetres in an hour. "It is so devastating that radical treatment is the only option."
He added the infection was so rare he only found five published cases ever of it occurring after liposuction and only one case after fat transfer in the w
